“Holidays in the Cyprus Countryside guided by nature and culture”
In 1996 the villagers have started, through governmental subsidies and incentives, to renovate their old houses (100-300 years old), and convert them into traditional lodgings ready to accept visitors from around the globe. The need for a better and more organize co-ordination of all these SME’s Cyprus Tourism Organization established the Cyprus Agrotourism Company, a body dealing exclusively with holidays in the Cyprus countryside. The Company started with only 7 members during the 90” and today we have more than 77 members (Owners of renovated units), 100 traditional houses and boutique hotels in 60 villages around Cyprus. We estimate that the number of the agrotourism establishments will be increase until the end of 2016, due to the EU funds.
Traditional Accommodation and activities in the countryside
The houses are spread over the villages, near the coast of Larnaka and Pafos regions and in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, covering Limassol and Nicosia regions.
It is important to mention that all the houses and b&b hotels have all private facilities. Each house has fully equipped kitchens; showers/bathrooms etc. in some cases provide swimming pools and fire places, air-conditioning, gardens, stone yards, beautiful balconies and outdoor furniture under the vine shades. Guests always have their privacy and the owners are not staying in the same unit, although they are always available to help their guests.
The boutique hotels offer hotel services. In some cases have spa facilities, restaurants etc. Most of the houses are self-catering and some of them offer traditional breakfast, or the visitors have the option of dine in one of the village taverns.
By staying in one of the villages one has the opportunity to explore the beautiful nature of Cyprus, flora and fauna, to meet the locals and listen to their stories, to visit the wineries and follow the wine routes, to dine in the local taverns and taste the delicious Cyprus food, to walk and discover, bike and discover. We also provide information about all these activities, like climbing, riding, cycling, and angling, bird watching, skiing and diving and the places where you can find some traditional products (sweets, crafts etc) . The 10 Unesco’s world heritage churches in the Troodos Mountains and the archeological sites are also worth a visit.
It’s all about people, nature and culture of Cyprus!
