Geographical Locations
Some 52 km northwest of Nicosia lies Polistipos, one of the many beautiful villages of the Pitsilia area. Polistipos is built on a slope, at a height of 1080 m. above sea level in a landscape segmented by the small tributaries of the Peristerona river. The village still preserves many elements of its traditional popular architecture with the local stone being the primary material. Polistipos means a place with a great number of vines and indeed, before the Ottoman occupation the village was a refuge of vines which decreased significantly in numberns because of the heavy tax imposed by the Turks on wine-making. The area has a rich natural vegetation, while important cultivations include hazelnuts, almonds, vegetables and citrus fruit. Its mountainous climate is a perfect condition for visitors who are looking for a cool, fresh and reviving environment.
