Anoyira is a small quiet, picturesque village halfway between Limassol and Pafos. It is a 25 min., drive to Limassol and a 15 min. drive to the beach. It is about 10 km inland from Avdimou. It lies about 800m above sea level. The drive to the village takes you past deeply cut ravines and carob and olive trees. As the winding road leads upwards, on one of the steep bends you see the village spring named "APIKRENI". Its water is cool and fresh, as it travels underground from the mountain slopes of Troodos. The village has a friendly grocery shop selling everything you will need. There is a pleasant tavern, where you can enjoy traditional Cypriot cooking. There also is a family winery, where you can taste the local wine. In the village there are two swimming pools available to the public. Just outside the village the majestic ruins of a Byzantine monastery can be found. It is named after the Holy Cross. Built in the 14th century, the monastery was hand painted with icons typical of Greek churches. The monastery was abandoned in the 19th century. The Department of Antiquities started restaurations five years ago.
