Apsiou lies in the southern area of the Limassol Forest, only 17 Km away from Limassol, 600 m above sea level. The village is a good starting point for visiting Troodos Mountains and yet is only 30 minutes drive from the beach. It is not so easy to find a combination so good of both sea and mountain for both active or relaxing holidays. Apsiou was one of the villages belonging to the area of the Grand Commandery, the headquarters of the Crusaders in the 12th century. To these days, many types of vines for wine-making are cultivated in the village, while the land is also suitable for the cultivation of olive trees, carobs, almond trees and grain. The name of the village derives from its ancient appellation Apaisos. The visitor will find in Apsiou an ideal place for true rest and tranquillity and a great number of beautiful natural sites in which to wander. Some of the area's historical monuments that are of particular interest are the Church of the Virgin, built in 1740 as well as the well-known monastery of Amirou. In the region of Apsiou is observed a great variety of types of rocks; for that reason, many geology scientists show great interest in the place, and visit the area to study its unique geological structure.
