Geographical Locations : Cyprus : Pafos (District)

The settlement is noteworthy in that it is built on a steep slope on the West Side of the Ezousa River valley. Located some 11 kilometers northeast of Pafos, the best way to get to the village is via the road to Konia, Marathounta and Armou. For these with a four-wheel drive vechicle, brakes in good working condition and strong temperament, the drive in to the village along the course of the river is breathtaking, as is the view of the river valley from the village. An imposing cliff with the new (i.e. mid-20th century) little white church of Saint Ilarionas towers above the landscape. At the foot of the cliff is the older church of Agios Ilarionas. According to tradition the Saint led an ascetic life in this craggy location. The cave where he lived and died in 371 AD watches over the settlement. A stroll around the village reveals to visitors that the traditional core of the village remains unchanged. The old stone drinking fountain with its characteristic arches still stands. The narrow, often steep, streets follow the natural gradient of the land and the houses are build in local greyishbrown limestone.
