The traditional houses of the Hapesi family in the village of Lympia date back to the beginning of the 19th century. Mr. Kakoullis Hapesis, the youngest of 11 brothers, was a builder and enthusiastic about quarrying and carving the local stone that is still available in the surrounding areas. He would load his donkey with stone, as well as wood and local reeds to carry to the site, where he gradually began to build the present facilities. The lower part of the buildings are constructed with local stone and the upper part of the buildings are built with sun-dried, clay bricks (bricks). He constructed a kitchen, 2 separate rooms for sleeping and a special area used both as a shelter for the animals and as a storage room for their fodder.
In addition, this traditional style of architecture works according to bioclimatic principles, which means that the design of the building takes into account climatic and environmental conditions to help achieve optimal thermal comfort inside. This is why these spaces are cool in the summer and maintain a good temperature during the winter.
In 2010, the youngest son of Mr. Kakoullis Hapesis, Michalis Hapesis, took the decision to restore his father's houses. Being also a builder and constructor, he felt the obligation to revive the legacy of his ancestors. Along with the houses, he inherited his father's love for carving stone and worked really hard for many years to bring back to life what was almost a ruin at that stage.
Today the complex consists of four separate houses. "Dichori", is the largest accommodation at the bottom of the inner courtyard. It consists of 3 bedrooms, 2 toilets/showers and a large kitchen/living room. It also has two separate fully equipped apartments one on the first floor and one on the ground floor. Each has a double bedroom, kitchenette and shower/toilet. The fourth house consists of 2 double bedrooms and a kitchen/dining room, shower/toilet.
All guests can privately enjoy their stay in the apartments and the courtyard, which is decorated with local plants and flowers with vibrant colours and beautiful smells. Although you feel like you are living in a different era, all the houses are fully equipped with modern amenities such as flat screen TV, fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, outdoor furniture in all areas. The warm welcome from Mr. Hapesi's family makes you feel at home.
